Captain Phillips is a multi-layered analysis of the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama US cargo ship with a crew of Somali pirates. It's - the director Paul Greengrasss unique lens - both pulse-pounding thriller and a complex portrait of one of the many effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between Alabamas Commanding Officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Oscar? -winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), which takes hostage.
